DELTA 28-206 14-Inch Bandsaw

The test cuts were good, with the motor showing no tendency to bog down. The Delta had the flattest table and little wheel or tire runout. The tension spring was heavy duty, and the fence was our favorite. The Delta has castiron wheels and trunnion support.

This saw ranked second only to the Laguna in re-saw capacity. Test cuts were acceptable but required a slower feed rate. It had a decent fence, but blade-drift adjustment was limited. The guidepost deflected easily when pushed front-to-back, potentially causing some blade twist. There was no built-in tension gauge. (Note that this review was written for the Shop Fox 14-inch G9970, now replaced by the Shop Fox W1707 17 inch saw, so the above review may not be 100% accurate.)

The wheels aligned perfectly. And although the blade tension maxed out at 7,000 psi, the lowest value of the bunch, the saw produced acceptable cuts. However, the motor quickly bogged down when stock was fed too fast. The fence can’t be adjusted for blade drift.

This Jet bandsaw, along with the Ridgid, ranked first in blade-changing speed. Its fit and finish were second only to the Delta and Powermatic. The wheels aligned perfectly. Wheel or tire runout was minimal, and its cuts were acceptable.
